How to Create Affectionate Inclusive Classrooms?

How do educators create an emotionally warm and inclusive classroom?

When designing an inclusive classroom for special needs students, space must be both secure and emotionally welcoming. A classroom environment that makes children feel safe is conducive to effective learning. It allows youngsters to learn quickly.

“Special educators may provide a safe and emotionally warm environment in a variety of ways”.

Classroom Environment:

Make sure the classroom is tidy, clean, and welcoming. Remove all distracting items that may interfere with learning. Arrange your classroom such that all the resources you need–books, calculators, and materials are where you can find and reach easily.

In an inclusive setup, if a youngster is physically disabled, remove obstacles and create room for their wheelchair. Remove anything that might be dangerous to kids with behavioural disorders.

Greet Them At The Classroom Entrance:

Every day when they come, the teacher should greet them at the classroom entrance. Explain that you want kids to establish eye contact with you.

Welcome to them verbally and physically, such as with a handshake and high five. Students gain a sense of attachment because of these acts. They have the impression that someone is looking for me, someone loves me and cares about me.

Let Feel Them Comfortable:

Allow them to ask questions. Engage them in the classroom by asking questions. Give them affection by which they feel comfortable and express their selves.

No matter what they say, give respect and a positive response. Allow the students to write onboard for you. It encourages students to take an active role in this process.

Give Rewards:

It would be best if you gave reward them every time they follow you and behave well. These rewards can be both verbal and nonverbal, such as saying kind things, providing chocolate or a sticker, and so on. However, please don’t overdo it. Instead, do it periodically because rewarding them every time will ruin their behaviour. They will accomplish nothing without a reward.

Celebrate Their Success In Classroom:

So, how to create affectionate inclusive classrooms? Congratulate them on their achievement. It aids in the formation of emotional attachments and the development of positive relationships between teachers and students.

To celebrate their success, make charts and portfolios, give them toys or bring them to the garden or for cartoons. Please show them some humorous and suitable movies, play non-competitive games.
