10 Reasons Why Jab We Met Is Still So Fresh In Our Minds

A free-spirited chatterbox crosses paths with a sad, silent type in a train compartment. The film that changed the game for Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in the film was none other than the blockbuster hit Jab We Met.

Geet Dhillon and Aditya Kashyap’s crazy adventures around overexcited Punju families, shady, small-town lodgings, and scenic hill stations lead to a gamut of wholehearted discoveries in Imtiaz Ali’s superhit Jab We Met. Its feel-cool content and ‘fresh twist to an age-old tale’ instantly clicked with the audience.

Jab Me Met has acquired its place in Bollywood’s pantheon of new millennium classics. There are several reasons why Jab We Met is still so fresh in our minds.

1- Kareena Kapoor Khan

Geet Dhillon, Played by Kareena Kapoor Khan is the foremost reason because of which Jab Me Met is still alive today. She was the firecracker who lived in her dreamland and walked to her own beat. She might come across as the fiery ‘Bhatinda ki Sikhni’ but there was something vulnerable about her too.

Kareena as Geet picked up a character that is completely unlike her from real life but she managed to nail it like a pro. Kareena’s bindass Sikhni dialogues to her overcharged battery avatar as Geet managed to leave an indelible imprint on all her fans.

2- Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, nailed it as a completely opposite character as Aditya Kashyap. The shy, calmer, and the more sorted guy who ends up falling in love but also grow in love and becomes a cheerful soul, ended up infusing new energy in Shahid and his career grew from thereon.

3- Electrifying Chemistry

Aditya and Geet are characters for the masses and this is regarded as a timeless love story. Together, Shahid and Kareena lit the screens on fire as Geet and Aditya. Apart from light-heartedly conveying Geet’s exuberance and Aditya’s exasperation, they lend their free-flowing banter its much-loved bounce and bang.

4- Peppy Music

One of the biggest reasons why watching Jab We Met should be on your agenda is the killer music by Pritam. Songs like Hum Jo Chalne Lage, Mauja Hi Mauja, Nagada, and many more from the album are chartbusters that will get stuck in your head.

In the peppy song Yeh Ishq Haaye where Kareena is seen dancing her heart out. However, if there is one song that will tug at your heart, it is Aaoge Jab Tum while Tum Se Hi’s romantic dance between Kareena and Shahid has now become an all-time classic.

5- Strong Direction

As a storyteller, we all first fell in love with Imtiaz Ali commercially with Jab We Met. The amazing vision of Imtiaz transformed into a well-executed tale of love and friendship in Jab We Met. And what made it so memorable were terrific performances by Kareena and Shahid. The seamless storytelling surely is one of the strongest USPs of Jab We Met and it makes it another reason to not miss it.

6- Epic Dialogues

Jab We Met’s biggest strength lies in its zesty one-liners and quirky interjections.

“Tumhe uthakar museum mein rakhna chahiye…ticket lagni chahiye tumhe dekhne ke liye,” When Shahid aka Aditya says this to Kareena aka Geet, we all got the sentiment. From the famous dialogue by Geet “Main Apni Favourite Hun” to Aditya’s question to her, “Kyun Khel ho apni Zindagi se Geet?”

Jab We Met’s dialogues were one of the major reasons behind the success of the film.

7- Comic Flair

Jab We Met had such an amazing comic punch between the dialogues that the hangover stays with you even when the movie is over.

There’s much to chuckle about the duo’s misadventures on route to Bhatinda, but that one episode of midnight looniness in Ratlam sets the tone for the rest of the movie.

8- Vivid Cinematography

Known for his vagabond vision, Imtiaz explores Jab We Met’s road romance fervor to boost Geet and Aditya’s lively connection with the soulful scenery of Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. The Gorgeous backdrops of the fields of Punjab, snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas, and the Indian wear worn by Kareena Kapoor made the movie more iconic in the truest sense.

9- Kareena’s Styling

Kareena Kapoor’s looks from this movie changed the fashion game for one and all. The Patiala salwar paired with a printed long t-shirt with a colorful inner became the ultimate go-to for a stroll in the market or a casual outing. The short Kurti and jeans with a shrug on top were a major OOTD goal back in the day.

A black corset worn over a white tee with a red skirt looked absolutely fabulous on her. The trend that is in vogue right now, in 2021, Bebo had already rocked back in 2007.

10- Realistic Life Lessons

Geet’s dialogue “Main apni favourite hoon” taught us that self-love was not always bad. She also had her way to come out of a break-up – by abusing your ex or flushing down their photo. She loved to speak her heart out, even if no one seemed to be listening!

Geet Dhillon was nothing like the women we had seen in our films for the longest time. She arrived just when female characters were trying to break free from just being the glam quotient in films. She was like a storm that smashed whatever came in her way.

Geet was flawed, just like any of us. She was colorful, just like any of us. She taught us how to love oneself unabashedly, make mistakes and move on in life.

Sometimes taking the wrong train can make you land at the right place

So, aap convince ho Gaye? Ya, main aur bolun?
